Whispers of the Mountain Country is a study of the Australian landscape, exploring the meeting point between rugged mountains, weathered earth and the changing light of the sky.
Each painting captures a different moment within the landscape. The distant mountains emerge through atmospheric layers of blue, grey and white, while the golden ochres, muted greens and earthy browns draw the eye into the land below. Richly textured surfaces and fractured marks suggest weathered earth, dry grasses and the natural scars created by time and the elements.
The vertical lines and heavily worked areas create a sense of movement through the landscape, while the cracks introduce an underlying story of age, resilience and change. Rather than depicting one specific place, the three works invite the viewer to recognise the emotional character of the Australian landscape — vast, ancient, weathered and continually changing.
Together, the paintings feel like three glimpses of the same landscape, each revealing something slightly different.
