Where the Land Holds Time is an abstract interpretation of a landscape shaped by time, weather and memory. A soft, luminous sky of chalky whites, muted blush and pale earth tones settles above a richly textured terrain of deep umber, rust, ochre and subdued green.
Layers of plaster and expressive marks create ridges, fractures and weathered surfaces that suggest the natural processes of erosion and change. Across the lower landscape, scraped, carved and repeated linear marks evoke traces left upon the land such as pathways, boundaries, waterways that are all remnants of something once present.
Rather than depicting a particular place, the work captures the feeling of an ancient landscape: quiet, grounded and enduring. The contrast between the expansive light above and the darker, heavily worked earth below reflects the tension between openness and weight, stillness and movement, and the transient nature of light against the permanence of the land.
