An abstract interpretation of the Australian landscape following fire.

This work explores the enduring relationship between fire, landscape and memory. The painting moves from a pale, heavily textured sky into a darkened and scarred landscape, where deep charcoal, burnt umber and earthy rust tones suggest a country altered by fire.

Cracked and weathered surfaces dominate the work, creating the impression of a landscape carrying the physical traces of what has passed. Beneath the darkness, flashes of warm ochre and red emerge across the horizon and through the foreground, suggesting that although the landscape has been changed, it is not lifeless.

I use layered texture, fractured surfaces and an earthy Australian palette to capture not a literal representation of a burnt landscape, but the emotional experience of standing within it. The work speaks to destruction, endurance and the quiet process of renewal.

The land may be scarred, but it remembers.
