This painting explores the quiet resilience of the Australian landscape. I was drawn to the contrast between the weathered earth, the dark ridgeline and the warm ochre tones of the fence that moves across the land.
Rather than depicting a particular place, I wanted to capture a feeling of the landscape after weather and time have left their mark. The cracked and layered surface represents the fragility and endurance of the earth, while the dark horizon suggests the ever-changing relationship between land, weather and light.
I used heavy texture and palette knife marks to build a surface that feels worn and imperfect, allowing the painting to echo the landscape itself. The fence becomes more than a boundary; it is a reminder of human presence, history and our connection to the land.
For me, the painting is about the stories held within the landscape. The land changes, weathers and endures.
