The Fracture explores the tension between the enduring Australian landscape and the forces that continually reshape it.
Across the three paintings, distant mountain ranges sit beneath heavy, atmospheric skies, while the landscape below becomes increasingly fractured and alive with colour. Rich reds, ochres, pinks and earthy greens push through the cracked surface, suggesting heat, drought, fire, regeneration and the raw energy held within the earth.
The heavily textured surfaces are an important part of the story. Cracks spread across the foreground like a map of the land, while vertical marks and layers of paint suggest grasses, trees and weathered terrain. The mountains remain quiet and enduring in the distance, creating a contrast with the restless, intensely worked earth below.
Together, the three paintings speak of destruction and renewal, fragility and resilience. They are not intended to represent one particular landscape, but rather an emotional interpretation of the Australian environment and its capacity to change, endure and regenerate.
