This painting vividly portrays the scene of a dramatic storm sweeping over a range of rugged, brown mountains. The mountain peaks are depicted in earthy tones that are subtly highlighted, emphasising their striking forms and adding depth to the landscape. These peaks appear to ripple with energy as if responding to the turbulence above, while swirling grey clouds dominate the sky, intensifying the sense of movement and foreboding throughout the composition.

Below the imposing slopes of the mountains is a lush, green valley. The vibrant colour of the valley stands out in stark contrast to the brooding and sombre tones of the landscape above. The grasses within the valley are bright, suggesting a brief glimpse of sunlight breaking through the impending storm. This contrast brings vitality to the scene, with the motion of the grasses indicating the force of the wind driven ahead of the storm, further enhancing the sense of nature’s dynamic power.
