Layers of Memory explores the Berry Mountain landscape as a surface shaped by time, weather and accumulated change. Rather than presenting a recognisable view, the painting reduces the escarpment to layers of earth, atmosphere and fragmented marks.

Muted ochres, stone greys, charcoal and weathered greens move across the composition, creating the impression of sediment, exposed rock and distant vegetation. Fine white fissures trace their way through the darker upper passages, while vertical drips and scratched marks descend through the lower half like the residue of rain, erosion or water moving across a rock face.

Small flashes of vivid green interrupt the subdued palette, suggesting moments of new growth emerging from an older, weathered terrain. Areas appear buried and revealed, softened and then scratched back, giving the surface a sense of having been repeatedly altered.

The painting considers landscape as something that records its own history. Each layer seems to carry traces of what preceded it—weather, erosion, growth and geological change—leaving the land as both a physical place and an accumulation of memory.The painting is sealed with varnish and has a matte black aluminium floating frame.
