Blue Pearls of the Land explores the Australian landscape through an abstract interplay of earth, water and movement. Warm ochres, rusts, sandy neutrals and muted greens flow across the surface, interrupted by deep charcoal forms and unexpected passages of luminous blue.
The composition has a natural, almost aerial quality. Shapes appear to merge and separate like shifting earth formations, waterways, rock pools or pockets of water held within an ancient terrain. The small areas of blue become jewel-like points within the predominantly earthy palette—the “pearls” of the landscape suggested by the title.
Layered texture and expressive marks create a sense of a landscape continually being shaped by natural forces. There is no fixed horizon or single viewpoint; instead, the viewer is invited to move through the painting, discovering fragments of land, water and geological form.
