As a mixed media and acrylic interpretation, A Gentle Winter’s Calm becomes a tactile exploration of the season's quiet grit using physical materials to mirror the raw elements of the land.
The sky is a vast, seamless wash of dove grey. Unlike the heavy textures of a storm, this area is painted with thin, diluted layers of acrylic creating a misty transparency. There are no sharp lines; instead, the greys blend into soft white gradients, suggesting a low-hanging cloud cover that muffles all sound.
The mid-ground is defined by soft, undulating curves of brown rolling hills that have lost their summer green. The brown is warm as the shapes mimic the rhythm of sleeping earth, with a three-dimensional weight without being jagged or harsh.
In the foreground, the green contracts and almost polarises the rolling hills as the cold air clings to the grass.
A Gentle Winter's Calm is an abstract landscape resting under a winter blanket.
